Tom & Dougie's Book Signing
/It has to be said, this was my most nerve wracking and exciting photography opportunity to date! Having the chance to shoot Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter from McBusted (McFly too) was something I've wanted for a long time, as I know they are really great lads from others who have met them previously! Turn's out they genuinely were really cool guys who made many teenage girls days by having a little chat and signing a book for them! The two dudes in question are posing sternly below!
The photography gig was for Random House Publicists (who are the publicists for 'The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas' book that was being signed at Waterstones in Bluewater). This was a client that i've never worked with before, but everything went without a hitch (much to my relief).
I arrived to be faced with 3 other professional Photographers all 'kitted' up to the eyeballs! This was fairly daunting as I arrived with my usual array of gear, primarily my trusty Canon 5Dmk2, my Canon 50mm f/1.4, Canon 85mm f/1.8 and my Canon 17-40mm f/4L wide-angle. This set up has served me well in the past so I put the tens of thousands of pounds worth of kit the other 'togs were using to the back of my mind and just went for it, and I am really happy with the results!
Getting shots like the one of Dougie above certainly helps by having crazy photogenic subjects! However this shot actually took a lot of patience and took around 1 hour to get the one I wanted due to the number of signings/fans/security guards getting in the way of the shot I needed! I got there in the end though and think the result was worth it!
And then we have the Pooping Dinosaur himself (or herself). The fans all got involved with the Dino and so did Tom & Dougie!
Very important to keep hydrated with all the signing! Caught Tom grabbing a quick break in-between scribbling in books! This was another shot I was particularly pleased with, getting the guys on their own with no-one else in the frame proved to be a difficult task!
And of course, the reason these guys were here in the first place was for the FANS! Here is a selection of shots showing the fans and the guys mostly posing for 'selfies' which was definitely the 'in' thing to get! Check out this first shot of a Tom impersonator grabbing a selfie with Tom & Dougie.
I think it is safe to say that everyone enjoyed themselves at the book signing hosted by Waterstones, myself included! I hope this Blog entry gives you a little insight into the challenge that this was, but at how sticking to your guns and not being intimidated by the competition can lead to good things! I guess on that note, I'll leave you with a couple more shots of the guys!
One final selfie from the man himself!
Cheers
Jack
